The "Discovery" of Aether

In Advance
I apologize from the briefness in the background. It may be lacking sufficiently in detail and only serves to catch the attention of those that may be interested. Read Secrets of Cold War Technology: Project HAARP and Beyond by Gary Vassilatos for the details and the full story. A link will be provide with a downloadable PDF of the book. If you have already done so, skip to the ** mark.

Background
Nikola Tesla is claimed to have made his "discovery" of Aether sometime in 1889. In 1887 Heinreich Hertz claimed to have discovered electromagnetic waves, otherwise known as electromagnetic radiation. In 1889 Tesla attempted to recreate Hertzs experiment but without success. It has been suggested that he went so far as to visiting Hertz and even came close to convincing Hertz that he had made an error nearly causing him to withdraw his thesis.

It was at this time that Tesla began working with high voltage discharges in the hopes of discovering "real" electromagnetic waves. At first Tesla worked simply with highly charged capacitors, and later began to use high voltage DC generators. The reason behind the change in the equipment was do to a known electrical effect which had resulted in the death of several persons working with high voltage dc lines. Whenever a switch was closed to a large circuit powered by an HV dynamo, a supposed "bunching effect" occured where the voltages observed in the power lines far exceeded the capable voltage of the generator. It was thought that the sudden closing of the switch met a very high initial resistance which caused the charges to bunch together. Naturally the excess charge seeks ground which often happened to be most easily accomplish through the switch board operator. Because this effect only occurred at the close of the switch, only impulses could be used. Tesla became focused on his study of the cause of odd behavior in power lines which soon led to the occurrences of many odd effects including a stinging pressure that could be felt whenever the switch was closed. Through changes in the impulse time as well as the addition of helical coils Tesla finally arrived at the appearance of a white luminous aether.

The Secrets of Cold War Technology: Project HAARP and Beyond by Gary Vassilatos is the only written source that claims of this discovery. For those interested in reading a more detailed version of the account I will be posting a link below with a download of the PDF of the book. The excerpt begins in page 25.
In his book, Vassilatos also mentions a Mr. Eric Dollard, a supposed engineer who has gone about to recreate many of Tesla's inventions including the true Tesla Transformer called "Tesla Impulse Transformer". This is the same transformer which is responsible for the production of longitudinal electromagnetic waves, which results in the aether discovery. Vassilatos claims that Dollard "vindicated" Tesla, and his "Impulse Transformer."
**It is imperative to state all known facts so far.

A fact to me is any bit of information that is known to be true at the time it is written, and can be supported with sources, or lack thereof.

Facts
The book:
-Only known source to describe the discovery of Aether by Nikola Tesla.
-The book is full of misspelled words. Anyone can see this for themselves by checking out the book.
-It is currently out of print.

Hertz:
-Did not withdraw his thesis.
-Credited with discovery of electromagnetic waves.

Gary Vassilatos:
-According to amazon "Gerry Vassilatos is a high school science teacher who lives in New York City. He is the author of Secrets of Cold War Technology, another forthcoming book from Adventures Unlimited."
-No other information has been found yet.

Eric Dollard:
-Can be seen recreating Tesla's patents and performing experiment in several videos dating circa 1988.
-No current known whereabouts or contact information.
-I have not found an experiment dealing with the "aether" in a video by Dollard yet.

Analysis
Everything should be questioned is a belief that I hold close. This especially comes into play when considering the information that I have thus obtained. I have a single source whose claims could potentially change our understanding on physics. The finding is so important that is begs the question why there is no documentation of any official and reputable research done into the topic. Furthermore the author is next to anonymous. In all reality, this book claims seem to be more of the creative and perhaps wishful thinking of an anonymous author. Even perhaps fabrication mixed with truth.

This means that the sources that are used in the book must be screened carefully along with related experiments.

Conclusion / Other Thoughts
Most previous experimenters who have tried to recreate this same experiment (Just Google and you will find people) seem to have not been looking for the "aether", but the other implications such as longitudinal waves.

My curiosity and desire for the "aether" stem not from my desire for it to exist, but to understand what exactly Tesla discovered, if he even discovered it. It could be some atomic or sub-atomic sized particle that we already know of, a new particle, or even electrons acting differently due to the circumstances.

My current plans for future research include:

-Examining "Dissipation of Energy from Hertz Resonator" - Nikola Tesla
-Reexamination of The Secrets of Cold War Technology
-Search for all material relating to Eric Dollard and his recreations
-Posting an example of the books errors and discussing problems other possible experiments countered.
